National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina

National Gallery of BiH is certainly the most important exhibition space and cultural and scientific institution dealing with the history of art in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in a building based on the design by Karl Paržik in 1912. It was founded in 1946, yet opened to the public only in 1959. Initially it had around 600 artefacts of the Gallery of Art Paintings of the National Museum in Sarajevo. Today it has 6000 divided into several collections: Art of Bosnia and Herzegovina (paintings, sculptures, graphics, drawings, new media, installations and recently started collection of photos), collections of former Yugoslav art collection, a collection of international art, collection of works by Ferdinand Hodler, a collection of icons and the Hope archives.
