It was founded in 1945 as a Museum of Revolution, but since 1993 it has been known as the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It covers the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Middle Ages to the present. The Museum has a fund of about 300,000 museum artefacts and exhibits. The largest number of documents refers to the period of anti-fascist and national liberation struggle during the Second World War.
