Trebević – the most beautiful view of the city

Mt. Trebević (1629 m) is the natural backdrop of Sarajevo and one of Sarajevo’s most popular outing spots. With Sarajevo’s neighbourhoods on its slopes, it represents a unique harmony of urban and natural. Due to its peculiar vegetation, it once had the status of a national park.

Trebević is twenty minutes away from the city by car. On the way there, you can stop by the VracaPark or the  amusement park Sunnyland  with  adrenaline alpine roller- coaster as its main attraction.

Two well-known Sarajevo outing spots, Napretkov Dom and Hotel Pino Nature, are located in the central part of Trebević, surrounded by forest vegetation of conifers and a source of drinking water.

Sports and recreation centre Brus is some three kilometres away from Napretkov Dom, at 500 meters below the top of Trebeveć. Hiking lovers are recommended a two-hour climb to the top of Trebević along a well-marked trail through a forest of spruce and pine overlooking Mt. Romanija and Bukovik. At the top you will find a breath-taking view of Sarajevo, small towns and villages nearby and stunning mountain ranges. Marked trails are not technically demanding in general, and are free from landmines. Therefore, we recommend that you explore this beautiful area, which is close, but at the same time far enough from the bustle of Sarajevo.

Trebević was once reachable by cable car from the neighbourhood of Bistrik. The cable car is currently not in operation, and it used to be a special attraction and an essential part of Sarajevo’s image. The ride took 12 minutes. Restaurant Vidikovac was located next to the cable car, offering a spectacular view of the city. In its vicinity, for luge and bobsled competitions during the 14thSarajevo Winter Olympic Games in 1984, bobsleigh track was built, at the time one of the most modern ones in Europe. All these facilities were destroyed in the aggression from 1992 to 1995.

Čolina kappa is yet another site with a view of the whole of Sarajevo, known for its towers built during the Austro-Hungarian rule. The towers primarily served for military purposes until they were taken over by the Astronomical Society in the sixties. One of the remaining historic towers housed the observatory with the largest telescope in the former Yugoslavia.
